Want to rent a motorcycle in Barcelona? REVV Travel rents BMW adventure and touring motorcycles (the F 800 GS, F 900 XR, R 1300 GS, S 1000 XR, R 1300 GS Adventure and R 1300 RT) from €140 per day, with 300 km per day (unlimited on rentals of 7 days or more), basic insurance and cross-border riding included. You collect the bike from REVV Travel, Carrer de l'Electrònica 15, 08110 Montcada i Reixac, just north of Barcelona, Monday to Friday 9:00–18:00. You need a category A licence, and you must be at least 23 with at least 1 year of riding experience.
That is the short answer. The rest of this guide is written by riders, for riders. We run tours from the same shop. Inside: which BMW to pick, what the deposit really means, what three days cost, and where to ride once the city is in your mirrors.
Which motorcycles can you rent in Barcelona, and how much do they cost?
Every bike in our Barcelona fleet is a BMW. Prices below are the live daily rates from our rental system. They are "from" prices because some models are listed at two rates (the R 1300 GS, for example, shows at €180 and €190).
| Bike | Best for | Engine / power | Seat height | Weight | From / day |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| BMW F 800 GS | Lighter adventure, first GS days | 895 cc / 87 hp | 815 mm | 227 kg | €140 |
| BMW F 900 XR | Sport-touring, fast A-roads | 895 cc / 105 hp | 820 mm | 216 kg | €165 |
| BMW R 1300 GS | The default big trail bike | 1,300 cc / 145 hp | 850 mm | 237 kg | €180 |
| BMW R 1300 GS ASA | Same GS, no clutch lever | 1,300 cc / 145 hp | 850 mm | 237 kg | €180 |
| BMW S 1000 XR | Fast street, Costa Brava pace | 999 cc / 170 hp | 850 mm | 227 kg | €185 |
| BMW R 1300 GS Adventure | Long range, higher seat | 1,300 cc / 145 hp | 870 mm | 269 kg | €190 |
| BMW R 1300 RT | Touring, two-up | 1,300 cc / 145 hp | 820 mm | 281 kg | €194 |
Manual or automatic? We have both versions of the big GS: the manual BMW R 1300 GS and the automatic R 1300 GS ASA. The ASA uses BMW's Automated Shift Assistant, which does the clutch work for you and can shift fully automatically (see BMW Motorrad's R 1300 GS page). Every other bike in the fleet is manual. Booking takes a 30% prepayment, and you pay the rest when you collect the bike.
Which BMW should I rent? Picking by rider and by trip
By rider
- Back on a big bike after a few years, or shorter in the leg: the F 800 GS. It is the lightest adventure bike in the fleet and the seat is 815 mm. It is the bike we put under riders on the 365 Curve Challenge.
- Experienced and want the benchmark: the R 1300 GS. It is the default big trail bike: motorway, mountain pass and gravel car park, all in one day.
- You hate the clutch in traffic: the R 1300 GS ASA. Same bike, same price, and the city exit and hairpins get much easier.
- Two-up with luggage: the R 1300 RT. It has the screen, the comfort and the composure for a passenger. The R 1300 GS Adventure is the alternative if you both prefer upright adventure ergonomics, but at 870 mm it has the tallest seat in the fleet.
- Sport riders: the S 1000 XR (170 hp), or the lighter F 900 XR.
By trip
- Costa Brava and the GI-682 coast road: S 1000 XR or F 900 XR if you want pace, F 800 GS if you want to relax and look at the sea.
- Montserrat and Montseny day loops: any of them. The R 1300 GS is the easy all-rounder.
- Pyrenees, Andorra and France over several days: R 1300 GS or GS Adventure for range and comfort, R 1300 RT if you are two-up.
What is included in a Barcelona motorcycle rental, and what isn't?
Included:
- 300 km per day, unlimited from 7 days. A 3-day rental gives you 900 km; book a week or more and you can stop counting.
- Cross-border riding. France and Andorra are fine, but tell us the countries before pickup.
- Basic insurance, with a €2,500 deposit (explained below).
- Free cancellation: full refund up to 15 days before pickup.
- Route advice and bike-selection help from our team of riders.
Not included, or extra:
- VIP insurance, at €30 per day, if you want the lower deposit. You pay it at pickup, or it goes into the 30% prepayment if you select it at checkout.
- Extra kilometres beyond 300 per day, at €1 per km, on rentals under 7 days.
- Helmets and riding gear are available, but ask when you book.
- Tolls, parking and any traffic fines. Those are on you.
Riding with friends? Our group rental service handles several bikes on one booking, and the rental page lists group discounts of up to 15% when you book multiple motorcycles.
Licence, age and documents for renting a motorcycle in Spain
These are full-size BMWs, so the rules are simple. You need an A licence, and you must be at least 23 with 1 year of riding experience. The A licence is obligatory for the whole fleet, the ASA included. At pickup, bring:
- Your physical driving licence showing category A.
- Your passport or national ID card.
- A credit card for the deposit.
Non-EU riders: do you need an International Driving Permit?
If your licence comes from an EU or EEA country (including Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway), it is valid in Spain as it is. If it doesn't, Spain's traffic authority advises getting an International Driving Permit in your home country before you travel. The IDP is not valid on its own; you carry it together with your passport and your national licence (DGT: driving with a foreign licence). Make sure the IDP covers motorcycles (category A).
Motorcycle rental insurance and deposit, explained simply
Most of the questions we get are about this, so here it is plainly:
- Basic insurance is included in the daily price. We hold a €2,500 deposit on your card. That figure is the most you can be charged if something happens under the basic cover.
- VIP insurance costs €30 extra per day. The deposit drops to €500, and €500 becomes your maximum deductible. Pay it at pickup, or select it at checkout and it goes into your 30% prepayment.
Our rider's rule: if it is your first time on Catalan mountain roads, or you are two-up, take VIP.
Pickup and return: where and when
You collect and return the motorcycle at REVV Travel, Carrer de l'Electrònica 15, 08110 Montcada i Reixac, just north of Barcelona and roughly 15 km by road from Plaça de Catalunya. You start on the right side of the city for the mountains and the coast, and you skip the downtown crawl.
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00–18:00.
- Saturday and Sunday: by arrangement. Ask early in high season.
- Phone: +34 93 368 30 51 or +34 611 700 635. Email: info@revvtravel.com.
Please arrive 15 minutes before your pickup time. A rushed handover is how people miss the turn for the good road.
How to book a motorcycle rental in Barcelona, step by step
- Go to Motorcycle Rental on revvtravel.com and choose Barcelona and your dates.
- Pick your BMW. Each bike page shows the price, specs and rental policy.
- Choose VIP insurance at checkout if you want it, so it goes into the 30% prepayment (or add it at pickup instead).
- Pay the 30% prepayment online to hold the bike. Plans change: you get a full refund if you cancel up to 15 days before pickup.
- Tell us your countries (France, Andorra) and whether you need gear.
- Show up with your A licence, passport or ID, and credit card. Pay the balance, sign, ride.
Prefer to talk it through? Call us or use the contact form and we will help you match the bike to the trip.
What does a 3-day BMW R 1300 GS rental in Barcelona cost? A worked example
Here is three days on an R 1300 GS at the €180 "from" rate:
| Item | Basic insurance | With VIP insurance |
|---|---|---|
| Rental, 3 days × €180 | €540 | €540 |
| VIP insurance, 3 days × €30 | – | €90 |
| Total | €540 | €630 |
| Prepayment at booking (30%) | €162 (30% of €540) | €189 if VIP is selected at checkout (30% of €630), or €162 if you add VIP at pickup |
| Paid at pickup | €378 | €441 (VIP chosen at checkout) or €468 (€378 + €90 VIP at pickup) |
| Kilometres included | 900 km (3 × 300) | 900 km (3 × 300) |
| Deposit held on card / maximum deductible | €2,500 | €500 |
So for €90 more over three days, your worst-case exposure drops from €2,500 to €500. Either way you pay the same €630 in total for VIP; only the timing changes. If your dates show the GS at its €190 rate, the rental is €570. You get 900 km for the three days, and each kilometre past that costs €1. Tolls come on top.
Rental vs guided tour vs self-guided tour from Barcelona
- Rental: you choose the roads, the pace and the hotel. Best if you know what you want, or if you only have a day or two.
- Self-guided tour: we plan the route and book the hotels, and you ride it on your own schedule. Our 365 Curve Challenge is 2 days and 520 km on the Costa Brava and inland Catalonia, self-guided, from €420 with an F 800 GS and a shared room. It does not cross a country border. 3 Nations: The Crossing is 3 days and 665 km through Spain, Andorra and France, from €705.
- Guided tour: a guide, a group and nothing to organise. Giants of the Pyrenees is 7 days and 1,250 km across Spain, Andorra and France, from €3,066, starting and ending in Barcelona. Pyrenees Coast to Coast runs 12 days and 2,300 km from the Mediterranean to the Atlantic, from €5,532.

Best months to ride a motorcycle from Barcelona
Barcelona rides all year, but the best rental months for coast plus mountains are April to June and September to October. That is the season we set for the 365 Curve Challenge: warm enough for the coast, cool enough to enjoy inland, and quieter than August. High summer works if you start early and keep the coast for the morning. The high Pyrenean passes are a late-spring-to-early-autumn plan; our guided Pyrenees departures run from May to September. Outside those months, snow and ice are real up there. Check the Catalan weather service, Meteocat, the evening before any mountain day, and look at the mountain forecast as well as the city one.
Day rides and weekend routes from Barcelona on a rental bike
Distances below are approximate one-way road distances from central Barcelona, based on OpenStreetMap routing. Your loop will be longer once you take the good roads. We go deeper in day motorcycle rides from Barcelona.
1. Costa Brava and the GI-682 (Tossa de Mar to Sant Feliu de Guíxols)
Tossa de Mar is about 86 km from Barcelona. From there the GI-682 runs about 22 km along the cliffs to Sant Feliu de Guíxols: bend after bend, with the sea on your right. Go early in summer, before the traffic. For the full two-day version with hotel, see the 365 Curve Challenge.
2. Montserrat
The monastery is about 60 km from Barcelona, which makes it the classic half-day or easy full day. Ride up, have lunch below the rock walls, and come home on quieter inland roads. Weekends can be busy at the top, so a weekday rental pays off.
3. Montseny
The Montseny massif is about 75 km to Sant Marçal, one of its high points. Expect tight, wooded mountain roads over passes like Collformic, villages built for coffee stops, and much cooler air than the coast. It is a good first-day ride to learn the bike.
4. Pyrenees and Andorra weekend
Andorra la Vella is about 190 km from Barcelona, so it is a proper weekend: up on Saturday, passes on Sunday, home that night. A 2-day rental includes 600 km, which covers the trip and leaves room for the passes. The usual approach through the Túnel del Cadí on the C-16 is tolled; the 2026 motorcycle rate is €11.73 per crossing (Generalitat toll tariffs). Our full plan is in the Andorra and Pyrenees weekend from Barcelona.
5. Crossing into France: Collioure and the Côte Vermeille
Collioure is about 195 km from Barcelona by the fast roads. There and back is roughly 390 km, more than one day's 300 km allowance, so make it an overnight on a 2-day rental (600 km included) or budget for the extra kilometres. Since cross-border riding is included on the rental, the only thing you need to do is tell us before pickup.
6. Two-day weekend: coast out, mountains back
Ride the Costa Brava on day one, sleep near the coast, and come home on day two through Girona's inland forests and Montseny. That is the idea behind the 365 Curve Challenge, and you can ride it on a rental with your own hotel.
Riding in and out of Barcelona: ring roads, tolls and lane-splitting rules
- Start north, not downtown. Because pickup is in Montcada i Reixac, you skip the city centre. The C-58 runs through Montcada toward Terrassa and Manresa (the Montserrat side), and the C-17 heads north from the Nus de la Trinitat toward Vic and Ripoll (the Montseny and Pyrenees side).
- Ring roads. If you do cross the city, the Ronda de Dalt (B-20) and Ronda Litoral (B-10) are the ring roads. Avoid them at rush hour, and plan to be back before the evening crawl.
- Tolls. The AP-7 from Barcelona to the French border (La Jonquera) has been toll-free since 1 September 2021, when the State removed its tolls in Catalonia. Some Generalitat roads still charge, including the Túnel del Cadí and the Vallvidrera tunnels on the C-16, and the C-32 south of Castelldefels.
- Lane splitting. No Spanish traffic rule expressly authorises filtering between lanes, so do not treat it as a right, and never do it on motorways or at speed. One new option: since 1 October 2026, motorcyclists may use the right-hand hard shoulder in congestion, at no more than 30 km/h, but only where the stretch is signposted for it (DGT, reform of the traffic regulations).
- Gear rules. Under the same reform, gloves are now mandatory for motorcyclists on interurban roads and closed footwear on all roads. Pack both.
Motorcycle rental in Barcelona: FAQ
How much does it cost to rent a motorcycle in Barcelona?
At REVV Travel, BMW rentals in Barcelona start at €140 per day for the F 800 GS. The F 900 XR is from €165, the R 1300 GS and R 1300 GS ASA from €180, the S 1000 XR from €185, the R 1300 GS Adventure from €190 and the R 1300 RT from €194. You prepay 30% to hold the bike and pay the rest at pickup.
What licence do I need to rent a motorcycle in Barcelona?
You need a full category A motorcycle licence. It is obligatory for our whole fleet, because every bike is a full-power BMW. Bring the physical licence card, not a photo of it.
What is the minimum age to rent a BMW in Barcelona?
You must be at least 23 years old, with at least 1 year of riding experience, and hold a category A licence. The A licence is obligatory for the whole fleet.
Do I need an International Driving Permit to ride in Spain?
If your licence was issued in the EU or EEA, no. If it was issued anywhere else, the DGT (Spain's traffic authority) says you should carry an International Driving Permit together with your passport and your national licence. Get the IDP in your home country before you travel.
How much is the deposit, and how do I lower it?
With the basic insurance included in the price, the deposit is €2,500, and that is the most you can be charged if something happens. Add VIP insurance at €30 per day and the deposit drops to €500, which then becomes your maximum deductible. You pay VIP at pickup, or it goes into your 30% prepayment if you select it at checkout.
Is mileage unlimited on Barcelona motorcycle rentals?
Rentals of 7 days or more have unlimited kilometres. Shorter rentals include 300 km per day, so 3 days gives you 900 km, and each extra kilometre costs €1.
Can I ride a rental motorcycle from Barcelona to France or Andorra?
Yes. Cross-border riding is included on the rental. Tell us which countries you plan to visit before pickup so the paperwork matches the trip.
Where do I pick up the motorcycle?
At REVV Travel, Carrer de l'Electrònica 15, 08110 Montcada i Reixac, just north of Barcelona. Monday to Friday 9:00 to 18:00. Weekends by arrangement. Call +34 93 368 30 51 or +34 611 700 635.
Are the bikes manual or automatic?
Both. We rent the manual BMW R 1300 GS and the automatic R 1300 GS ASA, which has BMW's Automated Shift Assistant and no clutch lever. Every other bike in the fleet is manual. You need an A licence for all of them, the ASA included.
Do you rent helmets and riding gear?
Helmets and riding gear can be arranged with the rental. Ask when you book so we have your sizes ready. Bring gloves and closed footwear either way: since 1 October 2026, Spanish rules make gloves mandatory for motorcyclists on interurban roads and closed footwear mandatory on all roads.
Can I cancel my motorcycle rental booking?
Yes. Cancel up to 15 days before pickup and you get a full refund.
What is the best month to rent a motorcycle in Barcelona?
For a mix of coast and mountains, aim for April to June or September to October. That is the season we set for our self-guided Costa Brava route. High Pyrenean passes are best from late spring to early autumn. July and August work, but plan for heat and busy coastal roads.
Ready to ride?
Pick your BMW, choose your dates and pay 30% to hold it. We sort out the rest at pickup. Book your motorcycle rental in Barcelona, or call +34 93 368 30 51 / +34 611 700 635 if you want a rider's opinion first. See you in Montcada, and on the GI-682.
