Day motorcycle rides from Barcelona

Day motorcycle rides from Barcelona

Most people who pick up a BMW at REVV Travel offices in Barcelona do not need a week. They need one honest day on good tarmac and a bike that still feels fresh at 18:00. These are the day loops we actually recommend from the shop — not every scenic pin on Instagram.

What “a day ride” means from this desk

Leave after 09:00 opening (Mon–Fri 9:00–18:00, weekends by arrangement), ride 250–400 km, and be back before the evening crawl on the B-20. Unlimited kilometres are included, so you are not rationing fuel stops against a meter. A license is obligatory and the rider must be over 25. Basic insurance is included with a €2,500 deposit; VIP at €30/day drops the deposit and max deductible to €500. Cross-border is fine on rentals if you want Andorra or France on a longer day — ask us before you leave.

Fleet context: F 800 GS from €140/day up through the bigger GS and RT models. For tight mountain hairpins we usually put day riders on a mid-size GS, not the heaviest tourer.

Three day rides we trust

1. Montserrat loop (about 200–260 km)

The classic. Barcelona → C-16 / N-II corridor toward the mountain massif, lunch with the rock walls in view, then home via a quieter inland return if the dual carriageway is jammed. Good in spring and autumn; July heat on the south face is real. Photographers stop more than riders. Budget 6–7 hours door to door if you actually want to walk five minutes at the monastery area.

2. Montseny / Sant Hilari day (about 280–350 km)

This is the forest day. Cooler than the coast in summer, wetter and colder in winter. Shaded corners stay damp after overnight rain — the same warning we give for day two of the 365 Curve Challenge. If the forecast is green, this is the ride that makes people extend the rental. If it has rained hard overnight, we will steer you toward Montserrat or Garraf instead of pretending the grip is there.

3. Garraf / Sitges coast and inland return (about 180–240 km)

Short, scenic, and busy on weekends. Leave early. The coast road looks perfect; hire cars and coaches do not. We often send people out along the sea and back inland so the afternoon is not spent in a parking lot of rental cars. Good warm-up if you only have one free day before a flight.

When not to force a long day

  • July–August, 13:00–16:00 on the coast: heat plus traffic. Start early or go inland (Montseny).
  • Wet inland mornings Nov–Mar: painted roundabouts and cold tyres. We would rather shorten the loop than recover a dropped rental.
  • One rider, first day on a GS in years: take Garraf or a shortened Montserrat, not 350 km of mountain pace.

Weekend instead of a single day?

If you have two days and want curves with a hotel baked in, look at the self-guided 365 Curve Challenge (520 km, from €420 with an F 800 GS and a shared hotel room; solo riders pay for an individual room). That route does not cross country borders. For the bike alone, start with motorcycle rental in Barcelona.

FAQ

Can I do Montserrat and Montseny in one day?

Technically yes. It stops being fun. Pick one massif and ride it properly.

Do I need a tour for a day ride?

No. Most day riders leave with a route brief and a phone number. Self-guided is the default.

What bike for a first day out of Barcelona?

Usually an F 800 GS class adventure bike: enough clearance and torque for Montserrat and Montseny without the weight of the biggest tourers.
