This October we are taking twelve riders across the two greatest roads in the High Atlas, and Billy Biketruck is coming with us.
Billy manages Charley Boorman. He has ridden around the world alongside him, organised the expeditions, and spent more time getting groups of riders across more continents than most people manage in a lifetime of trying. He knows what makes a trip like this work and what makes one fall apart. He will be with the group for all five days — every kilometre, every meal.
Billy picked the route. We have been riding these roads for years, and we would not change a metre of it. You leave Marrakech southbound over the Tizi n'Test — the first paved road ever driven across the High Atlas, a narrow ribbon of switchbacks that drops you into the Souss valley and the walled city of Taroudant. Two days later you come home over the Tizi n'Tichka, the highest paved pass in North Africa at 2.260 metres, sweeping and fast where the Test was tight and technical. Between the two you sleep at the foot of Aït Ben Haddou, the earthen ksar that has stood on its hillside for centuries and doubled as half of Hollywood's ancient world.
Think Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, The Jewel of the Nile and The Man Who Would Be King. Aït Ben Haddou has been a favourite of filmmakers for sixty years — the studios at nearby Ouarzazate were built for it — and you can still take a drink in the rooftop café where Sir Michael Caine and Sir Sean Connery relaxed between takes.
Three riding days, around 700 kilometres, and almost none of it dull. A short tour that rides like a long one, with the right person out in front.
1–5 October 2026
Twelve riders, and that is the only date we are running it. October is the best month of the year to ride the High Atlas — the summer heat has broken in the Souss valley and the passes are still weeks away from their first snow. Pillions are welcome.
